RTRP Environment
1st Conference on Accident Prevention and Quality Assurance in Radiotherapy at the Cancer Centre of the Rafik Hariri University Hospital in Beirut, Lebanon
The one-day conference, held at the beginning of November 2009, was opened by Mr Ibrahim Duhaini who is the Chief Physicist and MEFOMP President and Dr Wassim Wazzan, the CEO at the Rafik Hariri University Hospital (RHUH) in Beirut, Lebanon. Lectures on Accident Prevention, Quality Assurance and Quality Control in Radiotherapy (both External Beam Therapy and Brachytherapy), Prostate Seed Implant, and education and training for medical physicists were given by Mr Henry Lawrence, Dr Abdul Ismail and Dr Ihsan Al-Affan representing the RTRP Environment Ltd. The RTRP Environment Ltd specialises in teaching and training in Medical Physics- mainly in the fields of Radiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Protection. The conference ended with an open discussion between the participants and the lecturers. More than 30 participants including oncologists, physicists, radiographers and technicians attended the conference. At the end of the conference, a 3-year contract was signed by Dr Ihsan Al-Affan, the Director on behalf of the RTRP Environment Ltd and Dr Wassim Wazzan, the CEO on behalf of the RHUH. This contract, signed on the 2nd November 2009, establishes the RHUH in Beirut as the training centre and the RTRP Environment Ltd as the provider of high level training in Medical Physics for trainees from the Middle East and beyond. The next scientific meeting after the signing of the contract with the RHUH will be a 4-day training course in Radiotherapy Physics on 6th June 2010, to be held at the RHUH in Beirut.
